When it comes to either electric hollow or solid bodies, the name Douglas may not be a household word. Nevertheless, there is no denying the numerous guitar models that Douglas offers. Douglas guitars are manufactured in China, Korea and Taiwan. Apparently, other companies sell the same products under a variety of brands.
You have to wonder: Are the factories churning out higher priced imports for major names in the industry, creating the same guitars for companies like Douglas, but at a friendlier cost to consumers? On the road to becoming a manufacturing force to be reckoned with, Ibanez started out years ago, copying most of the top selling electric models at the time.
Though the company eventually got into some copyright entanglements, it has also produced some excellent quality guitars, now used by such notable artists as Steve Vai and Joe Satriani.
This is not to say Douglas Guitars is following the same route as Ibanez.
Harp & Acoustic guitar
However, Douglas does offer a vast assortment of models that are certainly meant to compete in the current marketplace, everything from a Strat, Tele or Les Paul type, to an Explorer or a flying V and beyond. Who knows, in the future, maybe a Douglas guitar will be seen in the hands of some famous blues slinger or ambidextrous rock god.
Considering the legendary status of the Les Paul, there is no real comparison to be made between these two. The Douglas has a convincing vintage appearance, owing to its gold finish, white pickguard, chromed out hardware and stop-bar tailpiece.
Another vital difference, Douglas makes use of a bolt on neck where Gibson is famous for its mortise and tenon design. Some online customer reviews have noted the finishes on some Douglas guitars has been less than that of its competitors. Go for it. I have their 6 string bass and the 7 string bartone. However, the strings are low end quality and not pre-stretched before they are installed. They provide great enjoyment. Your email address will not be published.

Chinese guitar knock-offs Thread starter Dpoirier Start date Jan 3, Dpoirier Power User. My brother was given a xmas gift by his brother in law - a reissue Les Paul custom. He showed it to me and I was in awe. Perfect neck, perfect fit, perfect guitar. I could not plug it in and try it out in an amp we were at a family reunionbut other that the amplified tone, this guitar is the nicest custom LP I've ever laid eyes on. Illegal, surely, because it has the Gibson logo, a serial number, and made in the USA in the back of the headstock.
Immoral, absolutely Would I buy one? I used to think "no, absolutely not, never" What are your experiences with Chinese fakes? What are your opinions on the moral aspect and please, pretty please, let's keep this thread free of insults and name calling, it's ok for people on the forum to have different opinions. I was firmly on the side of those who think this is just wrong and shouldn't be encouraged. There are some guitars that exist where the day after you buy them, you know you've made a mistake.
I'm going to list 5 of them below. These guitars are commonly known as "see-through" because you can literally see right through the transparent material. The acrylic will usually be "ice" clear shown in photored, blue, orange, yellow or green.
An acrylic-bodied guitar is one of the worst you could ever own. Three reasons. While not all Steinberger Spirit guitars are in the squared-off "broom shape" as you see in the photo, most are.
Is the Spirit a good guitar? Yes it is. Does it sound good? Yes it does. Does it play well? Again, yes. So what's the problem?
Chinese guitar knock-offs... opinions?
It looks like an unfinished toy. The Spirit guitar has never been able to shake this stigma. As good as the guitar is and it truly is goodpeople just never got used to the design. If you want something from Steinberger that's cool, get the Synapse Demon instead. The Bich string and yes it is pronounced like bitch is just one seriously weird-ass guitar.
I will give credit where it's due as it is innovative. I will also give credit that in a natural finish, it looks sexy as hell. As an instrument however, this thing is a nightmare to figure out. The photo above is a factory stock string Bich. You'd think that with all those switches and knobs that it was some guy that built it in his garage and took the guitar way too far, but no, that's the "standard" layout for the string version.
So what do all those switches and knobs actually do? Yeah, that pretty much sums up the Esquire. If you thought the Telecaster was as simple as an electric guitar could get, the Esquire has even less to it.
From a historical point of view, yes the Esquire came first before the Broadcaster which became the Telecaster and that's why it exists. Yes, Fender still makes the Esquire. No, they're not Custom Shop order only. You can buy a "plain" one as if it could get any plainer new right now. Should you? Noyou shouldn't. You'll always be thinking, "Geez, I should have bought a Telecaster Buy a Telecaster instead.Musikhaus Thomann is a large online retailer in the country, with over 3 million customers as of So, are Harley Benton guitars any good?
Some of their guitars are pretty heavy. The weight definitely gives it a great feel for sitting down and playing, but keep this in mind if you do a lot of gigging. Harley Benton has no problem refunding you if anything is wrong, so there really is no need to worry at all. Just know that when you purchase you should check out your guitar completely as soon as you get it. This is just a good idea of course in general with any musical instrument you buy.
These guitars have a very very very flat neck which the technical term is fretboard radius. Not sure why they chose to add this, great deal for anyone who like the feel of less curve on their guitar.
Just having quality checks like other high quality guitar companies and not charging the same price is enough, but sanding the sides of the fretboard…. Which brings me to my next point. The wood choices for all the guitars are great, electronics are great, Hardware……makes for great tone on all the models. From what it looks like, a lot of people have found older models of these guitars to not be up to par like the guitars they sell today.
Looking through these reviews I found that the difference was night and day even though most people found the guitars to be a higher standard, there were still some that claim they were mediocre at best which to me made absolutely no sense. But instead of just dismissing the negative reviews I tried to see if I could figure out why people are having such different opinions and I think I know the answer….
This is the best answer I have for this, because if you look at any other review of these guitars they talk about how great of a purchase this guitar was. Harley Benton Guitars are incredible, and becoming less and less hard to find in the states. Definitely going to be a brand to pay attention to in the future. There are of course, some quirks that makes these guitars very unique…. Go buy one. Note: Apart from them also being beautiful guitars and well-made……I really like the name as well.
I hope you found this review helpful! Who Makes These Guitars? A show is never a good time to be tired! Summary: Harley Benton Guitars are incredible, and becoming less and less hard to find in the states.Keep kids learning with daily schedules and activities.
