ffxi controller setup

However, the controller mapping is not correctly remembered. If I save control settings as X-Input, it will use a default controller layout, but, if I untick that, then the keys are seemingly stored in a random way. I have confirm set for A, and Cancel for B, but ingame, Cancel is mapped to Y, and also menu controls are mapped to the Xbone equavelent to Start and Select. Showing 1 - 5 of 5 comments.

In FFXI config gamepad options, make sure to select the correct preset for your controller type, i think its preset 1 for xbox controller. Don't use the "default" one, it makes the game think your gamepad is a joystick which caused me exactly the problem you described above. Ah I have found out that the problem is that recently X-Input was enabled in FFXI, but, in order to use it, it defaults to the Japanese layout and cannot be changed.

I read that on a fourm although now I cant find the link to it. Hopefully it will get resolved. Any way around that? Last edited by dylan ; 27 Mar, am. Originally posted by dylan :. Per page: 15 30 Date Posted: 11 Nov, am. Posts: 5.

However it did take me about 2 days to do, so because there seems to be a lack of information about it on the internet I'm going to give steps on how to get the trigger keys to work on a xbox controller.

First of all you need to have Micrsoft Visual Studio installed. This can be rather tricky to do because now microsofts website only supports bewteen and but heres a download link to MSCS ultimate. All though this installation seems like it can take between hours.

Download Cnet: Microsoft Visual Studio Ultimate Secondly you will need to have MSVC SP1 Runtime Installed, this one is a bit easier to find on microsofts main website for whatever reason, it shouldnt take as long, but it would probably install in less then a hour. Also make sure when you install XCBD that you right click it and run it as a administrator as it need to change registry values just to reference his post: SquallLeonheart said:.

I recently updated to a new laptop and purchased a replacement xbox controller to go with it, as my original one is about 8 years old. Not sure if they updated the driver settings finally, but it worked right from the box. Posts: There was a similar thread a little while ago, with some people having the same issue as Zart like myselfand some saying nothing needs to be done.

For the people who are having issues, Zarts guide is a clear step by step, cos it is a pita to work through thanks Zart! Unfortunately, it does not work out of the box for everyone. Yeah, nothing needs to be done except for enabling x-input.

FFXI HighWind Private Server (Controller SetUp)

If that's not working then your files are corrupt. Are you sure its not something to do with the operating system, I have windows7 and all the buttons would work just not the trigger keys, im also pretty sure that a xboxone controller is probably more plug and play friendly then a xbox, truely what the problem was that windows was reading the two trigger keys as one Axis so this fix makes windows define them as a button instead of a axis By Sylph.

The triggers didn't use to work because FFXI didn't support xinput. Now there is an xinput option in the padconfig and the triggers work fine with default drivers. You can argue it all you want, but it unfortunately doesn't work for everyone. Skip all that and get the Official Xbox Controller for Windows. Unless you become full blown Laughing Man on it, you will not be bringing up the typing menu as in Xbox.Item Search. Player Search. Global Topic.

In my windows devices i see that a button i press is called '1' but in ffxi config this button is suddenly '4'. BUT thats not the 'real' problem. Also, maybe something to take into consider. I clicked the box 'enable sound' in POL off, so no sounds should be played- and guess what. Posts: What controller are you using? Also: hello, long time. Shouldn't need any software to use it for XI, just switch the switch on the back to D before you start XI and you should be good well you'd have to config it with XI's config of course.

Then just switch it back to X mode for your other games. I've long since stopped using motioninjoy, yeah it is crap, and there's better alternatives for PS3 controllers now.

I had to do a clean install thanks to screen tearing, and setting up my controller again was a nightmare. Menu movement won't configure properly for me in the US menu, but you should only need to configure for the client you're using.

Although they won't configure, they will still function in game. Now if you deleted files and a file check won't recover them, either copying them from another source or reinstalling is the only method that I can think of to restore them. We're aware of the issue where manually assigning buttons to a gamepad isn't working properly within FFXI.

The development team will be addressing this in the December version update. Additionally, XInput does not work inside of the PlayOnline viewer; this is working as intended.Item Search. Player Search. Linkshell Search. Global Topic.

Windower and Game Controllers. By Sylph. Recently returned to the game and recently switched back to using Windower.

Controller

I've searched for a bit both here and the windower support website but haven't been able to find a specific resolution to this issue. I use a controller on the PC logitech F When using windower it resets the FFXI config tool to all defaults resulting in the controller not working with windower.

I've tried with both directinput and XInput settings. Is there any way to keep the controller settings in the FFXI config tool from defaulting when using windower? By Cerberus. I'm not entirely sure how to answer your question directly, but I can tell you how I use a controller on PC. As far as setting the controller up, I just go into the FFXI Config program and run through the controller mapping wizard.

I've never had windower erase my settings, but with my setup the controller will always control FFXI. Even if I have another game running and I'm playing that with the controller, my FFXI char will be reacting to the controller movement in the background.

This does not happen when dualboxing tho. The only thing I can say is try to map your own button scheme instaed of using a default setup. Posts: By Lakshmi. Windower doesn't mess with the registry entries for controller configuration.

Perhaps you have some kind of overzealous registry protection program. I must have a very old version of MotioninJoy. I've had multiple people tell me that about it being adware, but it passes my checker and I have no ads on it. Works good so I haven't changed anything.

Eh, I'd atleast make sure it's working in offline mode, and close the ports it tries to use. Are you sure you're configuring the same tools for the version your windower is launching?

Not tools for the version of windower, but tools for the version of XI your windower is launching. There's a toolsUS folder along with several others, are you sure you're configuring the one your windower is launching?

The controller works fine now, since SE decided to add x-input compatibility to the game a few months ago. AKA you don't need anything to map. Windows 10 has a glitch sometimes with controllers, the current test build has a supposed fix for it.

By Bismarck. Just putting in my comment to say that I use PS3 and in fact recently upgraded to the PS4 controller and have had no issues.

As far as a PS4 controller goes, it was a bit easier in my opinion. By Odin. You need to open playonline config and set the controller and whatever, none of that matter except that pmayonline first recognizes its a fEorzea Time. Item Search. Vendors Soon! DoL Nodes Soon!

I've gone though quite a battle to get ffxi to finally download "my internet lulz", now im onto the next battle. I can link my wireless controllers to my pc, but I have no idea how to get it to work with Final Fantasy I've played on the xbox for all of my ffxi career, so im just so used to the controller, I don't want to learn how to play with a keyboard.

By Sylph. By Bismarck. By Carbuncle. I highly suggest XBCD as your driver. If you are using the wireless controller, you'll need a PC Wireless receiver adapter and the drivers from Xwc. But with those drivers you can make it work exactly like on the itself. By Phoenix. I set up the controller for my PC awhile back. I forget the exact way I did it. But basically, since the triggers don't work because they're not listed as operational buttons under settings, I used several guides.

I play ffxi on a laptop with a wired xbox controller. I tried using a wireless controller but found that wired worked better for me. Set it up like this to match the way the controls are on Edit: Guess I was beaten. Thanks for the help all. Im just playing without the triggers, just changed the controls around a tad, and its going to take some getting used too. By Fenrir.

Use the Back and Start buttons to replace the triggers Suggestion of a linkshell mate of mine. Thats what I've done with my controller on the PC because my drivers made no difference to the triggers and I couldn't be arsed to mess around to make it work.
